This policy covers the Steam Spending Companion browser extension, version 0.3.8. It explains the information the extension reads, how it is used, and what is stored on your device.

The extension processes your Steam purchase history locally. The developer does not receive your purchase history or spending totals.

1. Responsible party and contact

Steam Spending Companion is provided by Emilis Petrilionis / Skulux / CompanionGrounds.

Privacy contact: [email protected]. Postal and provider details are available in the CompanionGrounds legal notice.

2. Information the extension reads

On Steam Store pages, the extension reads navigation elements to add a link to your spending dashboard. On Steam Purchase History, it reads the transaction rows and relevant account information displayed by Steam. Depending on what Steam shows, this can include:

  • Purchase and refund dates, transaction identifiers, item and game names, Steam App IDs, quantities or grouped transaction counts, and links in transaction rows.
  • Prices, currencies, discounts, refund amounts, Wallet credits, debits and balances, and Community Market totals.
  • Payment-method labels and any masked payment information Steam displays in those rows.
  • Gift-recipient names and profile links.
  • The Steam account display name shown in the navigation, used to label and look up the local cache.

These are personal and financial data even though processing takes place on your device. The extension does not request your Steam password, payment-card details, or a Steam API key. It does not access password or payment-entry forms. It does not read unrelated websites or request access to your browser’s browsing-history database.

3. Purpose and local storage

The information is used to calculate spending totals, savings, refunds, charts, and the game, gift, Wallet, Market, and payment-method breakdowns that you request by opening Steam Purchase History.

To make later visits faster, the extension saves a copy of the purchase-history table’s HTML in chrome.storage.local. The cached copy contains the text, links, and identifiers present in the saved rows, not just the totals displayed on the dashboard. It also stores the account label, row count, cache-format version, and update timestamp.

The cache is stored in the extension’s storage in your current browser profile. The extension does not use Chrome’s synchronized storage or upload this cache to CompanionGrounds. Chart selections and search text are kept in memory for the current page visit.

4. Network communication and third parties

The extension does not send purchase history, spending totals, or account labels to the developer, CompanionGrounds, advertising networks, or analytics services. It contains no advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics service and makes no direct requests to a CompanionGrounds API.

When more history is needed, the extension activates Steam’s existing Load More Transactions control. This causes Steam’s page to request further transactions from Steam using your normal signed-in session. Steam receives the technical information involved in those ordinary page requests, such as your IP address, browser headers, and Steam session information. This is governed by Valve’s Privacy Policy.

Your browser and the Chrome Web Store separately handle extension installation, updates, and their own store services under their policies. They are not analytics services embedded in this extension.

5. Permissions and site access

  • Storage: saves and restores the local history cache.
  • Steam Store site access: the navigation script runs on https://store.steampowered.com/* to add the SPENDING link. The dashboard script and styles run on Steam’s account-history pages to read history and display the dashboard.

The extension does not request cookies, browser-history, downloads, or access to all websites. It uses these permissions and page access only for the features described here.

6. Retention and your controls

There is no automatic expiry period for the local cache. It stays in the browser profile until it is replaced or removed. Older cache entries may remain when you use different account display names in the same profile.

  • Refresh from Steam removes the cache entry for the current account label and reloads the page. After successful loading, a new cache is saved. This is a rebuild, not a permanent opt-out from storage.
  • Disable the extension or restrict its site access to stop further processing. Disabling it does not erase its existing cache.
  • Remove the extension to delete its local extension storage. Reinstalling and using it again creates a new cache.

Clearing normal browsing history or the browser’s web cache does not necessarily clear extension storage. Removing this local copy does not delete your purchase history from Steam. The developer cannot inspect or remotely erase a cache that remains on your device.

7. Sharing, sale, and limited use

The developer does not sell, rent, transfer, or use your purchase-history data for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, profiling, or purposes unrelated to the spending dashboard. The developer does not have access to the locally processed history.

Steam Spending Companion’s use of user data adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. User data is used only to provide the disclosed purchase-history features.

8. Support and this website

If you contact the developer, the information you choose to send, such as your email address, message, or an attached screenshot, will be processed to answer your request. Sending a support message is separate from the extension’s local processing. Include only the information needed for your question.

Visiting the CompanionGrounds website to read this policy is also separate from using the extension. Website hosting, request logs, and related services are explained in the CompanionGrounds website privacy policy. The extension does not automatically visit this policy page or transmit its cache to this website.

9. Legal basis and rights

Where the GDPR applies, processing necessary to provide the extension features you request or respond to related service requests is based on Article 6(1)(b). Other necessary support correspondence may be processed under Article 6(1)(f), based on the legitimate interest in answering questions and maintaining the service. Website processing is described separately in the website privacy policy.

Subject to the applicable conditions, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, or portability of personal data held by the developer, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may complain to a competent data-protection supervisory authority. For history stored only in your browser, use the controls described above; the developer has no server-side copy to retrieve or amend. Contact the privacy address above for requests about information you have sent directly to the developer.

10. Changes

This policy may be updated when the extension’s features or data practices change. The date above identifies the current version. Material changes to data use will be disclosed before the changed processing begins.
